Dear Readers,

WOn Friday, the USCIS reported that H-1B applications for the 2005 fiscal year, which begins
October 1, 2004, had already exceeded 40,000. The total number of H-1B visas which will be
approved is 65,000.

Of the 40,000 applications received, 21,000 have been approved
and the rest are in process.

The 40,000-application-figure represents a significant
spike in H-1B activity since the USCIS last released any information.
